‘19 alumni banquet

 

Beaver School Alumni Association met Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Beaver County fair pavilion. The banquet was catered by Virgil Gibson of Hardesty.

Mary Ester Murray Sallee, Class of 1979 served as president this year. Don Jenkins, Class of 1964 was master of ceremonies and kept the audience entertained. Bill Miller, Class of 1959, offered the invocation before the meal was served. The attendance wasn’t quite as large as expected due to inclement weather being experienced throughout this area of the country, and also graduations on the same day.

Following the bountiful meal, Mary Ester welcomed those in attendance and led in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, after which Don Jenkins led them in the singing of the National Anthem.

Scholarship winners from the BHS senior class of 2019 are Trevor Avey and Christian Story.

Several prizes were given out to the oldest classmates: Clauda Hall Edwards, Class of 1946 and Keith Thomas, Class of 1943. Also recognized and given prizes furnished by the Bank of Beaver City and First Security Bank were Debbie Williams from Florida, Class of 1974, coming the farthest distance; LaNell Gourley Harris, Class of 1959, having the most kids graduate from BHS; Dwain and Peggy McFarland, married while in high school. Prizes were also given to the Class of 1969 for coming the farthest distance, Glen Needham from Ohio; the most kids in the class, Floyd VanDeburgh.

The veterans were recognized and given caps from the Bank of Beaver City and "travel buddies": Keith Thomas and Harold Kachel, World War II; and Danny Porter, Vietnam.

Kathal Lansden Bales, Class of 1963 and president of Beaver Historical Society told the group about the latest venture being undertaken at the Jones and Plummer Trail Musum, which will be a new addition to the building. Fund raising began in August and the amount needed was met and exceeded by January.

Classes honored were those ending in "4" and "9". Spokespersons for the classes were: lass of ’49, Herb Sprague and Marvin Bridwell; Class of ’54, Peggy McFarland; Class of ’59 Randall Bensch; Class of ’64 Don Jenkins; Class of ’69 Jerry Grove; Class of ’74 James Cudd; Class of ’79 Mark and Denisa Janzen Engelman.

The Class of ’49 represented by Herb Sprague and Marvin Bridwell set a record of sorts. Their football team scored a touchdown on Laverne from the first snap of the ball. And that was the only touchdown made for the rest of the season.

Beaver County Alumni Meetings 2019

Honored classes 9 and 4 for Beaver

Beaver Schools Alumni Association will meet Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Beaver County fairgrounds pavilion. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the banquet to begin at 6:00 p.m. and meeting at 600 p.m.. Honored classes will be those ending in "8" and "3". Several classes are planning to meet at various places around town. Other entertainment will be trivia questions for which prizes will be given. All alumni is urged to let one of the officers know whether they will be attending the catered banquet. Officers are Mary Eser Murray Salee is president; Debbie Haskell, vice-president; Marilyn McAlister Newman is treasurer; Shirley Walter, secretary; Vera Pittman Floyd, historian; A facebook page, "Beaver Schools Alumni Association", has been set up and has many pictures and information for those who might not be able to attend.

The Seventh Clearlake School Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 12:00 noon. Former students and/or teachers of Clearlake Grade School or any schools in the community, please plan to attend. Neighbors, Family and Friends are welcome too. Bring a covered dish for the meal, pictures and memories to share. Drinks, ice, plates and table service will be provided.

Beaver School Alumni Association met Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Beaver County fair pavilion. The banquet was catered by Virgil Gibson of Hardesty. Johnnie Hoover, Class of 1968 served as president this year. Don Jenkins, Class of 1964 was master of ceremonies and kept the audience entertained. Herb Bridgewater, Class of 1956, offered the invocation before the meal was served.

Following the bountiful meal, the BHS Alumni Choir sang the National Anthem. President Johnnie Hoover welcomed the large crowd in attendance,

Mary Ester Sallee, Class of 1979, announced the scholarship winners for 2018. They are Jenna Pugh, daughter of Mike and Starr Pugh and Colby McDonald, son of Mark and Cara Patee McDonald. "Thank you" cards were sent by the winners and read to the group.

Kathal Lansden Bales, Class of 1963 and president of Beaver Historical Society told the group about the "time capsule" found by accident in the cornerstone of the "old" high school. She showed the metal box in which the paraphernalia was placed from the year 1924. Her presentation will be in another section of this newspaper.

Historian Vera Floyd entertained the audience by reading a newspaper clipping about the "mail robbery" that occurred near Elmwood in which several of our "upstanding" citizens (now) participated in 1957.

Classes honored were those ending in "3" and "8". Keith Thomas was the only classmate present for the Class of ’43; Roberta Barker Methvin of Carrollton TX was spokesperson for the Class of ’48; other spokespersons were Moylene Bridgewater Davis, Class of 1953; Tim Leonard, Class of 1958; Kathal Lansden Bales, Class of 1963; Mickey Thomas, Class of 1968; Peggy Lee Campbell, Class of 1973; and J. R. Sprague, Class of 1978.

Gifts of appreciation furnished by First Security Bank; Bank of Beaver City and Rainbow Connection were given to Keith Thomas for being the oldest classmate in attendance. Also traveling the farthest was Oma Faye Buttram Fitzpatrick of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Class of 1963. Delta Dawes, Class of 1992, received a gift for being the youngest classmate present.

Hey Yesterday’s Dusters it’s time to huddle up for this years Big Game the Beaver High School Reunion!! Game day will be Saturday May 26th! Game sign up will begin at 4:30 with limbering up and a whole lot of bragging?? Pregame meal, knife and fork team will assemble at 6:00, entry fee will be $15. Please bring correct amount (10s & 5s) if not you will be eligible for a 5 yd/$ penalty tacked on??!! At 7:00 the ball will be teed up for the big game. This years Captains will be the Class of 1968! Time outs will be called for Class reports! More than 3-5min will result in a targeting penalty and will be disqualified?? Letter Bs will be presented to those in attendance, make sure the Coach (Don Jenkins) has the year (ex. 50 year and name to be printed) Game ball will be awarded for the longest drive, oldest player, player with the most touchdowns (most kids graduated from BHS and others created through out the game!! Have any trick plays wanted to run make sure the Coach gets these so those players can get exposed for creativity of play during the game! At the horn, We (Dusters) will stand and hear the Duster Fight song tooted by Mary Esther Sallee and the Duster Choir will sing Our School song! Post game parties will begin wherever!
